There are now 100 sustained Women Self Help Groups (WSHGs) by Koya Wes in South
Bastar Region,
Chhattisgarh, India. These WSHGs were formed by the motivation of Koya Wes over the last few years.
There are 10- 20 members in each WSHG. The average saving for each WSHG in their
saving account is about 2000- 3000 Rs, some of these WSHGs have about 10,000 Rs
in their savings. (here we should know that the average income of a whole family
in tribal villages of
South Bastar
is about 1000 to 5000 Rs or even less in a whole year.
Koya Wes has been inspiring local people to start agricultural production. In 4
(four) tribal villages, Koya Wes is running Natural Farming Centers. Chemical Fertilizers
were and are never used in these lands. These four villages are Chhetalanka, Faraspal,
Purantarai and Bhogam.
Koya Wes has planted about 1000 (one thousand) Banana Trees in the region.
We are trying to arrange Electric Driven Machines to make Oils from different forest
products. Initially, we will experiment with 20 or 40 machines for 20 or 40 WSHGs.
If these will be accepted and approved by our members of WSHGs then we will try
to arrange about 200 or more machines. We are also trying to arrange packaging machines
for Forest Products and label machines. This will help to give an organized structure
to the current unorganized collection of Forest Products by the tribal community.
We are trying to work on this with the help of our about 5000 (five thousands) friends,
who are related to our WSHGs and
Natural
Farming Centers
. Till now, Koya Wes has not received any fund from any funding agency. We tried
sometimes to get support or help from funding agencies. But because Koya Wes is
too weak to write proposals to get funds from funding agencies and also is less
interested to send reports with paper-proofs & cuttings of newspapers thus no
one is ready to appreciate Koya Wes, which is working in one of the most violent
areas of India and with zero funding. We get support from
our individual friends,
supporters, local community.
